About the Artist
Alice's art has mishaps and disappointments. They are equal parts methodical and sloppiness such as her life. She thrives on structure but often needs freedom to express in an unplanned environment. Originally painting was another tool for expression, however in recent years it has been a source of healing from sexual and emotional rejection during a 15 year marriage to a gay man.
As of late her art reflects the process of deconstructing the human soul. The deep and subtle layers in each work of art is representative of a person's unique history of diverse events in their lives and how they reflect the profound impact on character. Each buried color impacts the direction and result of what the viewer sees. She meditates on the word Sonder, which is the realization that everyone has a vivid life as full and complex as your own.
In addition she has a constant inner battle of being too much and trying to minimize her expression. This explains her lifelong obsession with simple lines, grids and graphs which are often incorporated into her work as a way to add some order to the chaos. She loves working with lines from friends tracked exercise workouts. The organic and erratic nature is fascinating and each line has a story.
